Laura Westring made an unprecedented impact on the professional networking scene in Brussels, after identifying a need for more positive leadership skills to be shared among early-career professionals and then creating a network to do just that. Through her Leadarise network and other projects, Westring has encouraged young women to embrace a style of leadership that comes from being kind to yourself and those around you, in order to have meaningful exchanges that lead to the sharing of vital information and skills for growth.
Westring’s work was recognized by U.S. President Barack Obama in his 2014 ‘Address to European Youth’, after she introduced his speech live on C-SPAN and CNN. President Obama thanked Laura for her "remarkable introduction” on fathers' roles in encouraging their daughters, saying that "our future will be defined by young people like her".
Westring built an entirely new community of young leaders, while moving up the ranks in her EU career. She started out as a project officer for the European Youth Forum before later becoming the youngest cabinet-level speechwriter for a European Commissioner, writing for Commissioner Carlos Moedas on the topics of research, science and innovation. In this role her work included writing speeches for the EU's international research cooperation with China, the U.S. and the Middle East.
In 2016, ELLE Belgique magazine named her "La Networkeuse" (The Networker) in their International Women's Day issue. She was also featured in Ronald de Bruin's 2017 book '21st Century Leadership for EU Institutions'.
Now based in Edinburgh, Laura has helped Scottish tech for good company Amiqus break pitching records while running her leadership communications agency Vocalcoach. At Vocalcoach Laura ghost writes for private clients, while providing her CPD accredited training 'Speech writing for powerful public speaking' to teams and networks using business as a force for good. She is a Tribe Women 2019 coach and specialises in helping women to use their voice and move their audience.
